Twenty Years of LEC
The Life Enrichment Center was formed to be a solutions-oriented faith-based organization which provides opportunities for individuals to serve their community and city well. One act of kindness can change a life and collective acts of kindness can shift a nation.
During the initial years of the Life Enrichment Center, through a variety of initiatives, we served the homeless, jobless, imprisoned, elderly, handicapped, and children and youth. However, in 2007, we launched what has become our signature initiative, a literacy tutoring program to help children read proficiently by the end of the third grade. If children are able to read by the third grade, they are 4x more likely to graduate high school. Most of the students that we serve grow up in underserved communities, but they have limitless potential and big hearts that crave the love and attention extended by LEC volunteer tutors.
