Last year, over 100 law enforcement officials served as LEC literacy tutors in Title I schools throughout the Commonwealth. This year, in recognition of the recent tension between urban communities and law enforcement, Norfolk, Newport News, and Alexandria have agreed to help mobilize more than 200 law enforcement officials throughout the Commonwealth to serve as literacy tutors during the 2020-21 academic year.
This represents a 100% increase in the number of law enforcement officials committed to volunteering their time and resources as a small but important step towards building a bridge between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The Life Enrichment Center is proud to offer this unique opportunity to engage young learners with law enforcement professionals committed to supporting literacy and learning in partner schools in Virginia.
